Catch Flashcard for Preschoolers
Catch — two hands, one flying ball and one delicious moment of waiting. This card is the game every ball wants to play: watching with your whole body, then closing your hands at exactly the right beat.

What does this word mean?
Catch means stopping something that is moving through the air by holding it with your hands. Your eyes do the hard part first — they follow the ball and tell your hands where to be.
How do you do it?
Stand face to face, a big step apart. The thrower says the magic words — “ready… go!” — and the catcher keeps eyes on the ball until it lands in their hands.
Why it helps a preschooler
Catching trains the eyes and the hands to work as a team. It is also a two-person game, so every catch carries a little conversation with it: my turn to throw, your turn to shine.
Say it together
“Ready… watch the ball… now! Catch! Two hands close like a bird cage around the ball.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Start with a big, soft beach ball hugged against the chest. Step back one tiny step for every catch. Ten catches in a row earns a silly victory dance.
Quick parent note
If catching will not click today, roll the ball instead. Catching on the ground is the same skill wearing training wheels, and it counts.
