Run Flashcard for Preschoolers

Run — the fastest word in the set. Heels drumming, hair bouncing, wind doing its thing. Every playground has one rule older than the fences: you do not have to run, but you will.

What does this word mean?

Run means moving so fast that for a moment both feet leave the ground between steps. That little flight is the difference a child feels instantly: walking never floats.

How do you do it?

Look ahead, not down. Arms pump like small engines, feet land softly. Start slow, finish fast — running away from a giggling grown-up is the classic training plan.

Why it helps a preschooler

Running is the body’s big engine warming up — heart, lungs and legs all at once. It also burns off the wiggles that make sitting still hard, which is why a good run comes before a good puzzle.

Say it together

“Quick feet, elbows in — run, run, run! Running is walking that got exciting.”

Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.

Try this

Play “red light, green light” or race to the tree and back. Short sprints with a finish line teach more than long chases — and the finish line is where the laughing happens.

Quick parent note

Chase games need a safe rule: we stop when someone says STOP. Practise the stop as part of the game, so the brakes exist before the hill does.
