ALPHABET ACTIVITY · CLASS 15 · AGE 3

Letter U — Umbrella.

An open orange umbrella floats in for the letter U. U says uh — the sound you make when something surprises you, which rain usually does.

THE CARD — DRAW RIGHT ON IT

Trace U u, circle the umbrella.

This is U’s own card from the class. Pick a crayon, then trace the big letter and the little letter right on the card with your finger, a stylus or the mouse — and circle umbrella. Press Save my work when you are proud: your drawing stays here for next time.

“u — uh, like umbrella”

U says uh, like the start of umbrella — a short, relaxed sound. When you are not sure what to say, you are already saying it: uh…

TAKE IT OFF SCREEN

Rainy day pretend.

Two minutes is plenty. Follow your child’s lead and stop while it is still fun — that is the whole method.

  1. 01

Open an umbrella indoors (over a towel) and stand under it: uh, umbrella!

  2. 02

Tap your fingers on the umbrella like rain drops, starting slow and getting faster.

  3. 03

Close it with a whoosh and listen for the big uh at the end.
