TODDLER 6 · LESSON 12

Vehicles and Sounds for 2-Year-Olds

Age 2 YearsSubject Talk & ExploreClass Toddler 6Duration 3–5 minutes

Beep beep! Vroom! Choo choo! At two, vehicles are sound machines on wheels, wings and water — and this class meets twenty of them, with big cards and three quick games.

Nothing to read and nothing to test. A sound in, a sound back — a tap, a point or a giggle all count. A few playful minutes is plenty.

Start Class Beep beep first. Works every time.

SOLVE THE SHEETS — ON PAPER OR ON SCREEN

Solve the vehicle cards together.

The vehicle cards print two to a page, straight from your browser. Printed and cut, they become a week of sorting, naming and sound-making at the kitchen table.

  1. 01

    Print the cards

Open the printable cards and print all twenty, two to a page. Cut them out together, naming each vehicle as it is cut.

  2. 02

    Make the sounds

Hold up a card and make its sound — beep, vroom, choo choo, nee-naw — then let your toddler conduct: card up, sound on.

  3. 03

    Sort by where they go

Sort the cards into little fleets: things on the road, things in the sky, things on the water. Where-it-goes is real sorting work.

  4. 04

    Count the wheels

Pick three cards and count the wheels on each — one, two, lots. Counting inside a favourite topic is the friendliest maths there is.

Every card page has a Write & Color layer: your child can draw right on the card with a finger, a stylus or the mouse, then save the finished work. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

TAKE IT OFF SCREEN

Vehicle hunt.

Look out the window or take a walk. Spot a car, bus or truck and name it together.

Try one today

  • Count the buses you see.
  • Listen for a beep.
  • Pretend to drive a car.
  • Make a train go choo choo.
  • Spot something that flies.

Keep it playful and stay close by. One spotted bus is a complete class.

PRINT THE CARDS

Print the vehicle cards.

Print the cards for vehicle hunts, matching and sound games.

The same twenty cards from today’s class, two to a page. Any paper works — cards just need to be big enough to point at.

TEACHER NOTE

One last word from class.

“Keep naming the vehicles you notice together today.”

— Your Kiddo School teacher

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

For the grown-ups.

Your child doesn’t need to learn every card today. Follow what catches their interest.

CLASS COMPLETE

Class complete!

Nice beeps, toots and choo choos together. However many rounds you played, however long it took, that was the whole class — and stopping early is allowed too.

TIPS FOR PARENTS

Tips for Parents

A toddler who answers every vehicle with vroom is doing the class exactly right. Any sound back is them talking.

Bring sounds into the body — steer a car, chug your arms like a train, rock like a boat. Movement helps words stick.

Repeats are the point. The tenth choo choo is still funny — and still teaching.

Age ranges are a guide. Go at your child’s pace.

FAMILY FEEDBACK

How was this activity?

Your feedback helps us make Kiddo School better. This is feedback about the activity, for the grown-ups who make it — it is never about a child.

FLASHCARDS

Prefer printed cards?

The cards from this class also live in the flashcards library — every card has its own page with the picture, the words to say together and a download button, ready for away-from-screen time.
