Spatula Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Safe to use
The flat green turning tool — the spatula slides under pancakes and cookies and flips them over, and it is the tool every kid wants to hold on pancake morning.

Say it together
“Spatula! The flat flipper. Slide it under the pancake… lift… and FLIP! Over it goes. The spatula turns food over so both sides cook. Sizzle… flip… sizzle!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Practise the flip on a COLD pan with a piece of bread or a foam pancake — slide, lift, turn, no panic. Then hand the spatula over for the real flip (grown-up’s hand hovering, pan off the heat for the moment). One successful pancake flip is a breakfast legend that gets retold for years.
Quick parent note
The flip is precision work: slide depth, lift speed, wrist turn. Practising on a cold pan removes every burn risk while keeping all the skill. And the spatula job pairs perfectly with the frying-pan card’s rule — the pan stays hot and untouched; the spatula does the reaching.
