Tambourine Flashcard for Preschoolers
A tambourine — a drum skin with little metal jingles set in the rim, so every slap comes with confetti. Tap it, shake it, slap it on your knee: it is three instruments that decided to travel together.

What is this instrument?
A tambourine is a small round frame with a skin across the top and pairs of tiny metal discs — jingles — fitted into slots around the rim. Hit it and both parts answer at once.
What does it sound like?
A slap plus a shimmer. Held high it shakes like maracas; slapped on the knee it snaps like a snare drum; rolled on the skin it hisses like a snake doing a drum solo.
Why it helps a preschooler
The tambourine’s two sounds — thump and jingle — teach loud and soft layers in one hold. It also demands nothing: the very first tap is already a success story.
Say it together
“Tap-shake-shake! The tambourine says boom with its face and jingle-jangle with its edges.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Slap the card on your knee — tap! Then shake it in the air — jangle! Play tap-tap-SHAKE, tap-tap-SHAKE, and end with the tambourine held high for one long overhead rattle. Encore rules apply.
Quick parent note
No tambourine? A plate with four bottle-cap pairs taped around the rim is the honest home version. In orchestras, the tambourine player rehearses exactly one slap for weeks — make it count.
