Swing — back and forth, back and forth, higher with every go. This card is the rhythm word: legs pump, tummy floats, and the wind gets a turn to talk.

What does this word mean?

Swing means riding back and forth while hanging from something above. The swing moves because you move — legs pump out and tuck in, and the seat becomes a pendulum.

How do you do it?

Sit deep in the seat, hold on with both hands, lean back and push the legs out as you go forward, tuck them under as you come back. Small pumps, big arc — the rhythm does the work.

Why it helps a preschooler

Swinging is rhythm and float in one motion — the tummy-drop feeling is the body learning about momentum, and pumping the legs is coordination wearing a party dress.

Say it together

“Lean back, legs out… tuck them in… swing! The legs are the engine and the sky is the destination.”

Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.

Try this

Behind-push first, then teach pumping with a rhyme: “out like a frog, in like a mouse.” One rhyme, one pump, and one day the pushes stop being needed.

Quick parent note

The request “push me higher” has a ceiling only the pusher can feel. Keep the arc that keeps the seat flat — giggles travel, seats should not.
