Metro Train, Monorail, Funicular & Steam Locomotive Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Land
Four members of the rail family: the metro train glides under the city, the monorail balances on one beam, the funicular climbs steep hills on a cable and the steam locomotive puffs like a dragon.

Say it together
“Metro train! Monorail! Funicular! Steam locomotive! The metro runs UNDER the ground, the monorail rides ONE rail up high, the funicular climbs the mountain on a rope — and the steam train goes CHOO CHOO with real smoke!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Rank them by where they run: under (metro), on one beam (monorail), up (funicular), across (steam train). Then the history pair — the steam locomotive and the metro are both trains, a hundred years apart: what changed? (Smoke out, electricity in.) Trains are the clearest time machine in transport.
Quick parent note
Rails are the theme: wheels that cannot wander. The steam locomotive is also the loudest "then" on any card — one CHOO CHOO and every child knows exactly which century it belongs to.
