Be — a step-by-step lesson for grown-up and child
Five minutes, one card: say “be” clearly, use it in a real sentence (“I want to be a pilot.”) and finish with one small game.

What it means
It is the word we use for who we are and who we want to be.
How to teach it
- Hold up the card and read “be” slowly, sliding a finger under it. Point out its shape: a b with its round belly on the right, followed by a little e.
- Cover the word with a hand and ask your child to say it from memory. Draw a big tick on the canvas when they get it.
- Play the game below, say “be” one last time and stop while it is still fun.
How to say it
Pop your lips for b, then hold a long ee: bee, like the insect.
Where to use it
Say it in a real sentence: “I want to be a pilot.” Then try “Be kind.” Where to spot it: wishes and instructions, such as be careful and be quiet.
Try this game
Ask What do you want to be? and let your child answer with I want to be... Then be that thing for a moment.
Understanding check
Tomorrow, show the card and say nothing. If your child reads “be” at once, it has arrived; if not, play the game again the day after.
Parent tips
If “be” slips away overnight, that is normal. Bring it back the next day with the same game and a smile.
This lesson pairs with the Be flashcard in the library — print it, show it, keep it on the fridge. Back to Sight Words (Class 29).
