Me — a step-by-step lesson for grown-up and child
Five minutes, one card: say “me” clearly, use it in a real sentence (“Look at me.”) and finish with one small game.

What it means
It is the word for ourselves when something is done to us or for us.
How to teach it
- Hold up the card and read “me” slowly, sliding a finger under it. Point out its shape: two little humps next to a letter e, like a pair of hills.
- Ask your child to find the first letter on the canvas and draw a ring around it, then say the whole word.
- Play the game below, say “me” one last time and stop while it is still fun.
How to say it
Say mee, with a long ee. It rhymes with see and tree.
Where to use it
Say it in a real sentence: “Look at me.” Then try “Can you help me?” Where to spot it: give it to me, help me, me too.
Try this game
Give yourself a hug and say me, then hug a teddy and say you. Let your child do both parts.
Understanding check
Ask your child to say one real sentence about themselves or someone nearby that uses “me”. A sentence they made up is the best proof.
Parent tips
Do not drill “me” on its own for long. Slip it into the books you read today and let the story do the practicing.
This lesson pairs with the Me flashcard in the library — print it, show it, keep it on the fridge. Back to Sight Words (Class 29).
