See — a step-by-step lesson for grown-up and child
Five minutes, one card: say “see” clearly, use it in a real sentence (“I see a bird.”) and finish with one small game.

What it means
It means to notice with your eyes.
How to teach it
- Hold up the card and read “see” slowly, sliding a finger under it. Point out its shape: an s with two e's that look like two eyes.
- On the drawing canvas, let your child trace over the word with a finger or the pencil, then circle any letter they already know.
- Play the game below, say “see” one last time and stop while it is still fun.
How to say it
Say see, with a long ee, like bee and me.
Where to use it
Say it in a real sentence: “I see a bird.” Then try “Can you see it?” Where to spot it: looking games and spotting, such as I see you.
Try this game
Play I see: say I see something blue and let your child find it. Take turns.
Understanding check
Say “see” and ask your child to show you with their body, then to read the card back to you without help.
Parent tips
Keep it to five minutes, and add “see” to the card pile only when the words your child already knows feel easy.
This lesson pairs with the See flashcard in the library — print it, show it, keep it on the fridge. Back to Sight Words (Class 29).
