Rolling Pin Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Safe to use
The wooden roller with the green handles — the rolling pin flattens the dough for cookies and pies, and rolling it back and forth is one of the great satisfying jobs of baking.

Say it together
“Rolling pin! Hold both handles… push — roll, roll, roll! The dough gets flat and thin. Roll it this way, roll it that way… even all over. Ready for the cookie cutters!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Flour the counter, divide the dough and let your child roll their own piece flat — two hands, long pushes, edge to edge. Then cut cookies and compare shapes. A flat, even sheet is a real skill with a real score: the cookies themselves. Uneven cookies taste exactly the same, which keeps the joy safe.
Quick parent note
Rolling is two-hand coordination, pressure control and patience — the whole upper body works. It is also the baking job with the lowest stakes and the highest sensory payoff: cool dough, dusty flour, the slow squash of the pin. Bakers are made at the rolling-pin stage.
