Go — a step-by-step lesson for grown-up and child
Five minutes, one card: say “go” clearly, use it in a real sentence (“We can go now.”) and finish with one small game.

What it means
It means to move or begin.
How to teach it
- Hold up the card and read “go” slowly, sliding a finger under it. Point out its shape: a round g next to a round o, like two wheels.
- On the drawing canvas, let your child trace over the word with a finger or the pencil, then circle any letter they already know.
- Play the game below, say “go” one last time and stop while it is still fun.
How to say it
Say go with a long o, like no and toe.
Where to use it
Say it in a real sentence: “We can go now.” Then try “Go to sleep.” Where to spot it: traffic lights, races and ready, set, go.
Try this game
Stand at one end of the room. Say ready, set, go and walk to the other end. Repeat with a new action.
Understanding check
Say “go” and ask your child to show you with their body, then to read the card back to you without help.
Parent tips
Keep it to five minutes, and add “go” to the card pile only when the words your child already knows feel easy.
This lesson pairs with the Go flashcard in the library — print it, show it, keep it on the fridge. Back to Sight Words (Class 29).
