Come — a step-by-step lesson for grown-up and child
Five minutes, one card: say “come” clearly, use it in a real sentence (“Come here.”) and finish with one small game.

What it means
It is how we ask someone to move toward us.
How to teach it
- Hold up the card and read “come” slowly, sliding a finger under it. Point out its shape: a c, an o and an m, with an e at the end that stays quiet.
- Ask your child to find the first letter on the canvas and draw a ring around it, then say the whole word.
- Play the game below, say “come” one last time and stop while it is still fun.
How to say it
Say kum, like some and drum. The o is a surprise.
Where to use it
Say it in a real sentence: “Come here.” Then try “Can you come to my house?” Where to spot it: invitations and calls, such as come and see.
Try this game
Wave one hand and say Come! as your child walks to you. Switch places and let your child call you.
Understanding check
Say “come” and ask your child to show you with their body, then to read the card back to you without help.
Parent tips
Do not drill “come” on its own for long. Slip it into the books you read today and let the story do the practicing.
This lesson pairs with the Come flashcard in the library — print it, show it, keep it on the fridge. Back to Sight Words (Class 29).
