Scissors Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 3+Classroom object
The blue scissors with open blades — scissors are the big-kid tool of the craft table, and learning to use them safely is a skill worth practising slowly.

Say it together
“Scissors! Thumb on top, two fingers below — open… close… open… close! The scissors only cut paper. Sit down to cut. Slow snips make the line.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Sit side by side and cut a strip of paper into scraps — the snipping matters more than the shape. Say the rules out loud each time: paper only, sitting down, walking never. Grown-up eyes stay close by the whole time, and the scissors live up high afterwards.
Quick parent note
Child-safe scissors, paper only, seated, with a grown-up nearby — that is the whole rule set, and it deserves saying out loud every single time. Cutting builds more hand strength than almost any other craft tool.
