Ruler Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 2+Classroom object
The yellow ruler with its row of numbers — the ruler draws the straight lines and quietly shows that things have length you can count.

Say it together
“Ruler! The straight-edge stick. Hold it flat… line it up… draw along the edge — a STRAIGHT line! Wiggle the ruler, draw again — a new straight line!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Go on a straight-line hunt: find three straight things in the room (the table edge, a book, the floor tiles), lay the ruler along each, then draw one straight line of your own. Curvy things are allowed too — the ruler just says no to them politely.
Quick parent note
A ruler is early measuring: numbers live on it in order, and every straight line it draws is a tiny lesson in careful hands. Drawing along an edge is real pencil control practice in disguise.
