Baking Tray Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Hot — don’t touch
The gray metal tray — the baking tray carries the cookies into the oven, and it comes out the same shape but a completely different temperature: hot, hot, hot.

Say it together
“Baking tray! The cookie tray. Dough balls go on the tray… spaced apart… into the oven it slides. And when it comes out — HOT! The tray is a hot one — grown-ups lift it, mitts go on, we never touch.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Your child’s job is the arranging: dough balls spaced on the tray (they spread — "give each cookie room for its neighbour"), then the tray goes to the oven by the grown-up. When the DING comes, watch the oven-mitt parade — tray out, onto the rack — and repeat the rule: "the tray is hot; we wait." Waiting is the job; cookies are the prize.
Quick parent note
The baking tray is the clearest hot-things teacher because kids SEE it change state: same tray, safe to fill and hold before, untouchable after. Spacing dough also sneaks in spacing math. The wait-after-the-DING habit is oven safety installed at cookie speed.
