Box Grater Flashcard for Preschoolers

Ages 6+Sharp — careful

The tall four-sided tower with the holes — the box grater shreds cheese and carrots into little strips, and every hole on it is sharp, which makes it a look-and-learn tool for now.

A kitchen flashcard titled Box Grater: the words "box grater" over a green and white four-sided grater.

Say it together

“Box grater! The four-sided tower. The cheese rubs up and down the big holes… SHRED — little cheese ribbons! Careful: the holes are SHARP. Look with your eyes, not your fingers.”

Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.

Try this

This is a name-and-watch card: find the grater, count its four sides, notice the different hole sizes (big shreds, small shreds, slices). Then watch a grown-up grate cheese — palm flat on top, fingers far away — and say the sharp-things rule together: "sharp things are grown-up things." The cheese on pasta afterwards tastes like a science demo.

Quick parent note

The grater card earns its place in the sharp-things lesson: it looks friendly and behaves sharp. Learning "the holes are blades" at six, by looking, is exactly the safe introduction — graters cause more little-finger scrapes than knives, and this card is the antidote.
