Dishwasher Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 3+Safe to use
The white machine under the counter — the dishwasher washes the dishes so nobody has to, and it offers children the perfect first kitchen job: loading the basket with the safe, unbreakable things.

Say it together
“Dishwasher! The machine that washes the dishes. In go the plates… the cups… the spoons. Click, the door shuts — whoosh, wash wash wash! Then everything comes out clean and warm.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Give your child the cutlery basket: spoons in spoon-side-up (or down — pick your family’s rule and keep it), one at a time, into their spots. Sorting silverware is matching practice that ends with a machine full of clean dishes. Unloading the cups to the low shelf is the promotion, saved for when the loading is expert.
Quick parent note
The dishwasher is the gentlest appliance in the kitchen — no flame, no blade, no heat the child can reach — which makes it the natural first chore machine. A child who loads a dishwasher learns sorting, care and the big idea that everyone’s plate gets washed together.
