Basketball Flashcard for Preschoolers

A bouncing orange ball and a hoop up high — basketball is throw, bounce and catch, the three things small hands practise all day anyway.

A sports flashcard titled Basketball: the word "basketball" over a basketball scene with a hoop and a bouncing ball.

Say it together

“Basketball is bouncing the ball with your hands and tossing it into the hoop. Bounce, bounce, throw — swish!”

Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.

Try this

A laundry basket on the floor is today’s hoop. Bounce the ball five times, then drop-toss it in. Move the basket further away each round. Every catch you take is hand-eye coordination doing push-ups.

Quick parent note

The bounce is the real teacher here: a ball that comes back up asks to be hit again, and hitting a moving ball on purpose is one of the big fundamental movement skills.
