Street Sweeper, Snowplow, Line Painter & Rail Grinder Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Construction
The keepers: the street sweeper brushes the gutters clean, the snowplow shoves the snow aside in white waves, the pavement marking machine paints the road’s straight lines and the rail grinder showers sparks to keep the train tracks smooth.

Say it together
“Street sweeper! Snowplow! Line painter! Rail grinder! The sweeper brushes, brush brush brush. The snowplow pushes the snow — whoosh, mountains of white! The line painter draws the road’s long yellow lines, and the rail grinder makes SPARKS on the tracks — the road’s tidy-up crew!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Line-painting pretend: lay masking-tape roads and let your child paint the "yellow lines" with chalk or a brush — straight lines are a real skill the machine does at walking pace. Then the sparks question: why does the rail grinder make fireworks? Grinding metal makes sparks — the train track gets a shave.
Quick parent note
These are the maintainers — the machines that exist to keep everything else working, which is a quietly beautiful idea to hand a child: roads need brushing, snow needs pushing, lines need painting. The rail grinder’s sparks are the most impressive tidying-up on Earth.
