Cold Planer, Asphalt Recycler, Curb Machine & Slipform Paver Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Construction
The road doctors: the cold planer chews the old rough surface off, the asphalt recycler melts the chewings into new road, the curb machine squeezes out the raised edge of the pavement and the slipform paver pours a fresh smooth lane in one glide.

Say it together
“Cold planer! Recycler! Curb machine! Slipform paver! The planer shaves the old bumpy road — scrape, like a giant cheese grater! The recycler melts the old bits into NEW road. The curb machine squeezes out the sidewalk’s edge, and the paver glides along leaving fresh smooth road behind it!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Grater demo (grown-up hands): grate a old crayon stub into shavings — that is the planer’s job, chewing off the old surface. Then the recycle idea: old road is not rubbish — it melts and comes back as new road. Roads can be born again!
Quick parent note
This card is the recycling lesson of the construction set: nothing gets thrown away, it gets re-laid. The curb machine is the answer to a question adults rarely ask — how did the sidewalk get its raised edge? Squeezed out, wet-concrete style, by a machine that writes curbs the way a pen writes lines.
