Coffee Maker Flashcard for Preschoolers

Ages 6+Hot — don’t touch

The machine with the glass jug — the coffee maker drips hot water through coffee grounds into the pot, and its plate keeps the jug warm all morning. Hot machine, hot jug: a look-and-learn member of the hot family.

A kitchen flashcard titled Coffee Maker: the words "coffee maker" over a drip coffee machine with a glass jug.

Say it together

“Coffee maker! The morning machine. Water goes in the top, coffee in the filter… drip, drip, drip — the jug fills up! The jug and the plate stay HOT. We never touch the coffee maker — grown-ups pour.”

Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.

Try this

Name it on the counter and watch a brew from the outside: water in, filter in, button on — drip drip drip. Say the rule while it drips: "the jug is hot; grown-ups only." Then the best part — your child can pour the COLD drinks instead: juice for the table, water for the cups. Everyone has a pouring job; the coffee maker’s job just belongs to the grown-ups.

Quick parent note

The coffee maker is the kitchen’s most familiar "hands-off" machine, which makes it a low-drama place to rehearse the hot rule: it hums, it drips, it steams, and the child’s job is simply to let it work. Meanwhile the cold-drink pouring job keeps small hands in the serving business, safely.
