Kettle Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 3+Hot — don’t touch
The gray kettle on the stovetop — the kettle boils the water for tea and cocoa, and it is the kitchen’s loudest safety teacher: kettle means HOT, and hot is a look-don’t-touch.

Say it together
“Kettle! The kettle boils the water. The kettle gets VERY hot — hot, hot, hot! We look at the kettle… we never touch the kettle. Only grown-ups use the kettle. Hands behind your back — safety pose!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Teach the safety pose: hands clasped behind the back, one big step back from the stove whenever the kettle is on. Say the rule the same way every time — "hot, don’t touch; grown-ups only" — and let your child be the safety checker who announces "the kettle is HOT!" when the steam starts. Rules said with a job attached are rules children keep.
Quick parent note
The kettle is the perfect first hot-things card because it announces itself: it whistles, it steams, it lives on the stove. A child who learns "the kettle is hot, I step back" has learned the pattern for every hot thing in the kitchen — the rule generalizes for free.
