Garlic Press Flashcard for Preschoolers

Ages 6+Grown-up tools

The green squeezer with the little basket — the garlic press crushes a clove of garlic into tiny pieces in one squeeze, and it is one of those kitchen tools kids see and immediately ask: what IS that?

A kitchen flashcard titled Garlic Press: the words "garlic press" over a green garlic press.

Say it together

“Garlic press! The squeezer machine. A clove of garlic goes in the little basket… SQUEEZE both handles… and out comes tiny garlic through the holes! Smelly, strong and delicious.”

Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.

Try this

This one is a name-it card: find the garlic press in the drawer, open and close the handles, maybe squeeze a clove with a grown-up’s hands on top. Smell the garlic after — the press’s whole party trick. Tools like this one are answered "that’s a garlic press — you’ll use one someday," which is exactly how future cooks are made.

Quick parent note

The Ages 6+ cards are "what is this?" cards: named, explored, understood — not yet used. The garlic press is a perfect one because its mechanism (a lever that squeezes) is visible and satisfying even for a watcher, and garlic is the smell kids recognize from across the house.
