Ladle Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Safe to use
The long-handled deep spoon — the ladle scoops soup from the pot to the bowl, and serving the family their dinner is one of the proudest jobs a small cook can hold.

Say it together
“Ladle! The big deep spoon. Dip it in the soup… scoop… lift… pour into the bowl — there! One bowl of soup, served with care. Your turn to serve everyone!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Practise the scoop-pour with COLD soup or water in the sink first — dip, fill, carry, pour, no drips. Then promote it: ladling real (warm, not hot) soup into bowls at dinner, one bowl per person, counting them out. Serving the family is a big-kid job, and everyone says thank you.
Quick parent note
Ladling is a full command course: dip depth, fill control, steady carry, targeted pour. It also puts the child in the host’s seat — the one who feeds others. Few kitchen jobs earn as many genuine thank-yous, and thank-yous are fuel for more helping.
