Crayons Flashcard for Toddlers
Ages 2–3Play time
A box of five bright crayons — the first tools that make marks on purpose. Scribbling comes first, and every scribble is a masterpiece the artist will tell you all about.

Say it together
“Crayons! Look at the colors — red, yellow, green, blue. Scribble scribble! What did you draw? Tell me about it!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Tape a big sheet to the table and scribble side by side — one crayon each. Ask "tell me about your drawing" instead of "what is it?": at this age the story matters more than the picture. One crayon box at a time, paper always, and the dining table stays a dining table.
Quick parent note
Scribbling builds the grip that writing will borrow later, and being asked to narrate the scribble builds the talking that reading will borrow. The two-year-old who explains their scribble is doing pre-writing and pre-reading in one chair.
