Night Light Flashcard for Toddlers
Ages 1+Sleepy time
The little glowing lamp — the night light is the friendly face of the dark room, and it earns its place in the bedtime script the moment a toddler learns to name it.

Say it together
“Night light! Click… on comes the night light. The room is dark but the night light glows — soft and yellow. It watches over you all night.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Make the click part of the routine: the toddler gets to flick the switch or say "night light, ON" — control over the light is control over the dark. Then say goodnight to it by name. A light the child switched on themselves guards better than one the grown-ups snuck in later.
Quick parent note
Fears of the dark bloom around age two, and the night light is the classic answer because it gives the child agency: they turn the dark friendly themselves. The card makes the light a named member of the bedtime team, not a crutch to be embarrassed about.
