Ferry, Kayak, Canoe & Speedboat Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Water
Four river runners: the ferry carries cars and people across the water, the kayak is paddled with a double blade, the canoe glides with a single paddle and the speedboat flies with its engine roaring.

Say it together
“Ferry! Kayak! Canoe! Speedboat! The ferry goes back and forth, back and forth, all day. The kayak paddles with TWO blades — splash, splash! The canoe paddles on one side, then the other. And the speedboat goes ZOOM across the bay!”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Paddle practice in a chair-boat: a double "kayak" paddle on both sides, then a single "canoe" paddle swapped left-right — discover why one-sided paddling spins you in circles! Then the ferry question: what goes back and forth across the same water all day? The patient workhorse of the water.
Quick parent note
The kayak-canoe pair is a fine paddling puzzle: two blades or one, sit inside or kneel. The ferry is the water’s bus — same route, every day, horns and all. Rivers were the first highways, and these four still run them.
