Scissor Lift, Material Lift, Tunnel Borer & Trencher Flashcard for Preschoolers
Ages 4–5Construction
The up-and-through crew: the scissor lift folds up like an accordion, the material lift hoists loads up the scaffold, the tunnel boring machine chews a tunnel through a mountain and the trenching machine cuts a long neat ditch in a single pass.

Say it together
“Scissor lift! Material lift! Tunnel borer! Trencher! The scissor lift goes up like folding scissors — up, up, up! The tunnel borer eats through the mountain — crunch, crunch — a tunnel! And the trencher cuts a long straight line in the ground, like drawing with a giant pencil.”
Say it naturally, then wait. Whatever comes back — the word, the sound, a point, a giggle — is the right answer.
Try this
Scissor-fingers: open and close your hands like the lifting scissors — up they go! Then the tunnel game: crawl through a blanket "mountain" while a partner chants "crunch, crunch, keep boring!" Underground construction is invisible in real life — this card makes it edible.
Quick parent note
The tunnel boring machine is the biggest vehicle in the entire set — some are as long as a football field and chew through rock with a rotating face of steel teeth. Kids already know its cousin: the worm in the apple. Same idea, city-scale.
